We're Live!
Welcome to the new Friends' Central School website. Click around. We hope you will be as excited as we are. Our new site not only looks a lot different--it behaves differently as well. We have drastically cut back the number of pages. We have worked hard to simplify the way you get around inside the site. And there is more to come! All fall, we'll be adding to the site, more content, more pictures, and more information for you. Let us know what you think. Email us at newlook@friendscentral.org.

    • Peter Grove in Main Line Times
On August 25th Peter Grove was profiled in a series on local heroes in the Main Line Times.  The article details and extols Peter's gifted teaching approach as well as his role as a "green giant" in the community.  Columnist Mike Weilbacher writes, "He lives the words of my favorite poem: 'Come forth into the light of things,' wrote Wordsworth in 1798 in a poem that later inspired Thoreau. 'Let nature be your teacher.' He does, and immersing his kids in nature is perhaps the largest gift he offers them."  Read the full article here
    • FCS Athletes Take Skills to Muhlenberg
Emily Belkoff '10 is ready to make her mark on Muhlenberg's women's lacrosse team. She is aiming to break a few records held by her mentor and coach Diana Bleakley FCS '01/MC '05. Both chose Muhlenberg College as a collegiate representation of their years at Friends' Central. Diana amassed some impressive numbers as she stood in goal for her four seasons at Muhlenberg. In order for Emily to best Diana, she will need to total more than 669 career saves, a season high of at least 252 saves or 28 saves in a single game. As Emily states, "I am a Diana Bleakley protege. If I do everything I am supposed to do, things will fall into place. If I'm lucky enough and good enough to break Di's records, I would be honored."  As Muhlenberg College record holder and Friends' Central assistant girls' lacrosse coach Diana Bleakley '01 put it, "When I first heard that Emily Belkoff was going to Muhlenberg College, I joked, 'You'd better not break my records.' In actuality, I would be honored to have Emily break my records. How awesome for both of us to be in the record books together."

Friends' Central is sending another gifted girls' lacrosse player to Muhlenberg College. Kaitlyn McCaffrey '10 will help shore up the defense in hopes of helping Emily Belkoff have a shot at breaking Diana Bleakley's records. As Belkoff states, "It's comforting to know that I am going to college and playing with one of my best friends. We're going from a great Friends' Central experience to a great Muhlenberg experience together.

Another member of FCS' Class of 2010 will also put on a Mules uniform this coming winter. Mark Margulies '10 will be playing on the men's basketball team. Other recent graduates are also competing at Muhlenberg. Ken Ludwig '08 is on the wrestling team while Jillian Glen '09 and Erica Bash '09 both run cross country and compete on the women's track team.

It will be fun to watch our Muhlenberg connection continue to grow as these student athletes take their talents to the next level. Go Mules!
